We love to post replies to SheJumps questions, discussion, thoughts, so here is Lydia's regarding Vanessa Pierce's last column ... Thanks new friend.
Hallo, my name is Lydia Lardy....!
Inbetween-land is intense. It's a constant battle between what is and what could be. I left my home state of epic Montana last summer to come to an art school in Washington to pursue my dream as a painter/illustrator. My school is year round and I am stuck on an island where a bottle of juice is 25 million dollars (exaggeration :D) and the skies are mostly overcast. I go to school 8-5 three days a week, and the other four days I am working at a paint store with all guys from 8-5 as well. Right now I am stuck in Inbetween-land, and the only thing keeping me sane is the outdoors. When I am feeling "blah" and "what is the point" I hoof it to the trees or the beach to explore the unique wilderness of Washington. Here I forget all about home, school, friends, I just tune into the now and listen to the waves and trees.
All the while my sisters in Montana are busy hiking, rafting, camping, skiing/working at the mountain, concerts- you name it. I crave the open skies, the familiar friendly spirits, and the heavenly snow of my home. I know that this education will help me be more successful as an artist when I am through, but the middle ground is hard sometimes. I took a jump, and I am still in the air. But while I'm up here, I'm learning lessons and gaining strength that will make me that much more stoked to jump again when my feet hit the ground. There is silver lining, but it takes risks and obstacles along the way. One mentor I will always have is nature. Appeasement is as easy as stepping out the front door and observing something that will always be here for us. Keep it up with the flying !!! (no pun intended)
I LOVE SHE JUMPS!
