Jumping! It’s as easy as riding a bike! On Sunday, September 13th, Seattle area SheJumpers braved the driving rain to participate in Bikes n’ Brews El Norte hosted by the Cascade Bicycle Club. This was a relaxed urban event for recreational cyclists who appreciate flat city riding and tipping back local craft beers.
The 38-mile route started at scenic Myrtle Edwards Park near Downtown Seattle. Team Girafficorn was taken on an out-and-back ride to Kenmore, utilizing the Elliott Bay, Ship Canal and Burke-Gilman trails, and lightly traveled roads in between trails. Of course, all was made even more challenging by the signature Seattle rain.
The diverse group ranged from ‘first time on a road’ to ‘this is barely a training ride for me.’ We took our sweet time at the start line making sure everyone’s bicycles were tuned up and sporting a girafficorn. Once everyone was good to go we had one more important task to complete: team photoshoot!
Typically the rain comes through in waves, cleansing the city streets with misty blows but not that Sunday. No, the hard rain continued throughout the entire first half of the ride. Once we reached the 192 Brewing Company in Kenmore, all of us were ready for fuel and a warm fire.
Our jovial team spent most of the afternoon enjoying the brewery atmosphere, Seahawks football game and conversation with others. After a while, the ride hosts gently reminded us that the event ended at 3pm and encouraged our team to get moving on back to the finish line where more food, drink and music awaited our arrival.
The trek back to Myrtle Edwards Park was pleasant and rain free! Amazing what a difference feeling your hands can make!
Thanks to all those dedicated Team Girafficorn members who came on out for a quintessential Seattle bike ride! Looking forward to more events like this!
