First Women’s Backcountry 101 Class

This past weekend SheJumps and the Utah Avalanche Center teamed up to offer the first of two women’s only backcountry safety class.  Over 30 women signed up for the course, including 5 ladies who won full scholarships provided by SheJumps!  Thursday night consisted of a three hour classroom session covering snow pack, terrain assessment and safe travel, and decision-making.  On Saturday the women were broken up into six small groups, each with a UAC instructor and assistant who was a UAC volunteer, local ski patrol, or SheJumps volunteer.  Out in the field the women were able to put their new knowledge to the test by assessing the snow pack, choosing routes up the mountain, and safe terrain to ski down.  Did you miss out on this class but still want to become more knowledgeable in the backcountry?  There is a second class on February 20th & 22nd.  You can register here and don’t forget about the scholarships!
