On Sunday, February 21st we celebrated our second annual Get The Girls Out event at Schweitzer Mountain. We received over eight inches of fresh powder the day before followed by sunshine and blue bird skies to set the scene for a fun filled day on the mountain! It’s pretty safe to say that our event was a major success the second time around in 2016: snow was shredded, tutus and friends were made, money was raised for SheJumps with a killer raffle, and we had over 90 SheJumpers and HeJumpers registered for the event! (up from 15 registrants our first year – crazy!)
As we checked in those registered for the day, the early arrivals received swag from our sponsors and were able to pick up some Kate’s Bars, Little Red Wagon Coffee, goodies from Schweitzer mountain, and much more! Once folks had checked in, they got busy making their tutus and perfecting their outfits for a day of fun in the sun!
If you aren’t familiar with what SheJumps GTGO’s are all about, let me paint you a quick picture: It’s a national campaign to unite women as they support, challenge, mentor and inspire each other in the outdoor sports world. These events cultivate communities for women to have fun and connect with friends – new and old. The event is retro-themed and prizes are awarded to the most creative costume and the ladies go all out!
This year’s winner of best dress pictured on the right above. Please observe the attention to detail in makeup, jewelry, and crimped hair – perfection!
We also had some super cool HeJumpers rocking flair and having a good time on the mountain! (this guy and his mom won the scavenger hunt contest!)
We had some amazing runners up for best dressed and some fantastic participation from everyone in their colorful tights, tutus, onesies, and retro jackets!
We found some actual unicorns on the mountain!
And giraffes too!
There were even puppies in tutus!
And did I mention there were Wookies in tutus too?! Everyone came out for the day!
There were also lots of other activities for non skiers and snowboarders so that everyone had a chance to enjoy a day on the mountain. We had two snow shoe hikes, two sessions of intertubing in the park, we had two showings of the movie Pretty Faces: The Story of a Skier Girl, a scavenger hunt with prizes as well as lots of crafts and tutu-making materials for everyone! After all of this, we ended the day with a Sparkler Celebration and a huge raffle!
We had so many generous sponsors that made our fundraising raffle a huge success and people walked out with some seriously awesome prizes! We had puffies, jackets and hats from Outdoor Research as well as tickets and gift certificates from Barre at the Studio, Touch Theory Massage, Schweitzer Mountain, Farm Girl Fit, Longleaf Wilderness Medicine, and the Spokane Public Facilities District!
We also had helmets from XS, handcrafted art from local artist The Woolley Bugger, Gondom goggle covers from Tailgate Industries, poles from Black Diamond, shirts and hats from Arctyrex, and a splitboard from GNU!
We even had a pair of custom skis up for grabs from local ski brand, Sneva MFG based in Spokane, WA!
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect and it was certainly one of my best days on the mountain in a long time. I made a ton of new friends and after looking aroound at all the smiles and goggle tans surrounding me I can easily conclude that I wasn’t the only feeling the good vibes! Is it next year yet so we can do this all over again?
