GTGO at the Nut Recap

Written by SheJumps Southeast Ambassador, Kelly Drewnowski

This year’s Get the Girls Out at The Nut was a huge success with over 30 women and young ladies gathering to support SheJumps while skiing and riding at Massanutten Resort in Virginia. Many participants drove several hours to join fellow jumpers at the resort. It was a great opportunity to get women outside and on the mountain for a wonderful event all about having fun and being together!

The skies may have been overcast and the snow a little sugary, but that didn’t diminish the smiles or sweetness of the day! The first 12 ladies that checked-in received treats from our partners at Little Red Wagon Coffee Roasters and Kate’s Real Food along with girafficorn stickers!

The girafficorn stickers quickly found new homes!

Following a group photo many headed up the lifts to make some long awaited turns, while a few ladies stayed down low to take lessons and learn new techniques to safely navigate the slopes. Two brave snowboarders even switched disciplines for the day and tried two planks for a change! It was a super supportive environment and the perfect setting for new and renewed pursuits on the snow.

After a couple of runs together the ladies split up into smaller groups for a few more hours of skiing and snowboarding. Everyone had a great time catching up with friends old and new as we enjoyed the fresh air and the camaraderie of an all female event. There were so many smiles and laughs during lift rides our faces hurt! Many times you could hear comments that it was someone’s best day on the mountain all season.

Lunch at the Mid-Mountain Grill was the perfect time to rejuvenate our legs and reconnect as a group while catching up and furthering friendships.

Once we refueled during lunch it was back to the slopes for even more laughs and encouragement as we made several more runs before calling it a day.

Carrie Willetts, who travelled over 3 hours to join us, said “Great fun!…Look forward to next time!”

Tara Thessen, came out for the first time in 15 years! Her comment of “what a blast that was!” sums it up!

After a day of skiing and riding together the ladies headed down the mountain to the après ski party at our partner Jack Brown’s Single Wide. Everyone had a fun time relaxing, chatting about the day, swapping info and promising to meet again!

Several local business partners donated over $1000 worth of awesome items for the raffle while Jack Brown’s generously provided a fun venue, free food and cold beverages for the ladies. Some of the items raffled off were ski socks, gloves, hats, jackets and numerous gift cards. Everyone went home with a prize and some even with two!

The SheJumps Get the Girls Out at the Nut event was a great way to spend the day in fabulous company while spreading the word about SheJumps in the Shenandoah Valley. We also helped raise several hundred dollars to support the organization, which is always awesome! Most importantly the ladies enjoyed the event, loved learning about an amazing organization and can’t wait to do it again. Many were already asking when our next event will be…soon!

A huge thanks to all of our local business partners. We couldn’t have put this incredible event together with out them: Massanutten Resort, Jack Brown’s Single Wide, Powder Shack, The Sole Source, Peter Glenn Ski and Sports, Midatlantic Motorwerkes, And thank you to Kris Hensley for helping with registration check-in and Ian McAlexander of ITMexposures.com for taking photos on the slopes!

Fellow jumper Kris Hensley said “Get the Girls out at the Nut with SheJumps was such a fun day! I loved seeing so many positive ladies and girls join together on the slopes for this event. Every lift ride was full of smiles and laughter and we all cheered for each other out on the snow. New Friendships were created and old friends were able to catch up. The support of community sponsors was incredible with prizes and pares party. Our Southeast Ambassador Kelly created a top notch event!”

Thanks once more to the 30+ ladies that joined us. It was an awesome day full of smiles and laughs!
