Intro to Whitewater Kayaking

Love to kayak? Never gone but want to learn a new skill with awesome fellow SheJumpers? Want to spend a beautiful summer day (or weekend) on Deerfield River?

Come join Zoar Outdoor and SheJumps for a one- or two-day introduction to whitewater kayaking clinic on August 1 and 2nd!

Whether you are learning the basics or brushing up on your already awesome skills, Zoar’s expert female instructors will get you ready to run the Deerfield River!

The one-day clinic will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1 OR you can sign up for the two day clinic which will run August 1st and 2nd!

Zoar’s instructors will teach you the basics on flat-water in the morning so that you will be ready to run the Deerfield River in the afternoon.

While the first day is focused on gaining basic skills and getting comfortable in the boat, the second day we will work on river maneuvers and end the day by running a several mile-long, Class I-II section of river.

WHEN: Aug.1-2 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. WHERE: Meet at Zoar Outdoor 7 Main Street, Charlemont, MA 01339 COST: $100.62 for one-day clinic (Saturday only) OR $191.25 for two-day clinic!

Reservations are required by July 24th PLEASE CALL ZOAR OUTDOOR TO RESERVE A SPOT at 1-800-532-7483!

WHAT TO EXPECT: Zoar Outdoor instructors will encourage you to push your limits but will also maintain a safe environment by having the final say as the what each river runner may decide to do when rapid options are presented. Zoar Outdoor will provide each student a boat and will be expected to carry it from the vehicle to the water and back.

You will be spending somewhere between four and five hours in your boat with your legs stretched in front of you. To prepare, you can stretch your thighs, hamstrings and torso (back, stomach, shoulders and neck). Increasing your flexibility allows you to develop more efficient strokes, and be more comfortable in your boat. The book “Stretching” by Bob Anderson is an excellent reference for specific stretches.

WHAT TO WEAR: The Deerfield River is always cool, regardless of the time of year or air temperature. Please plan accordingly. Consider packing warm, synthetic layers along with your bathing suit.

Zoar Outdoor will provide a boat, wetsuit, paddle jacket, booties, life jacket, helmet, paddle, and spray skirt.

The company will also provide a catered picnic-style lunch! Typical lunches include homemade rolls, sliced turkey, ham or other meats, sliced cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, chips, salsa, hummus, pasta or other salad, cookies or other dessert and hot and cold drinks.

THE FINE PRINT State law requires the following statement: “Before placing your order, please inform your server if a person in your party has a food allergy.” We do not use nuts in our food, but cannot guarantee that the ingredients in our meals do not contain nuts or other food allergens. If you have food allergies or other special dietary needs, we strongly suggest you bring your own bag lunch in non-glass containers and we will pack it with the other lunches on your trip. Please inform our office at 800 532-7483 or info@zoaroutdoor.com if you intend to do this.

The clinic will run rain or shine.

Reservations are required by July 24th.
