If you share our passion for empowering women and girls through transformative outdoor experiences, we invite you to join our leadership as a Board or Committee member! We’re looking for people who want to be part of building and expanding the future of SheJumps. We’re specifically looking for people with expertise in one or more of the following areas (listed in priority order): nonprofit finance, legal, overall nonprofit management, JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion), and fundraising (including grants, individual giving, and corporate philanthropy). We are looking for people who have previous board experience, but will consider all candidates for all positions. If you don’t have board experience, please take an extra look at the committee opportunities. Regardless, if you’re excited to expand our vision to ignite and unearth human potential through outdoor play, we want to hear from you!
Will you join us?
In an effort to align with our values of being more inclusive and offer transparency with how we approach developing and selecting the leadership for the organization, we host an open call for self-nominations. We seek to have board and committee leadership which represents the broad diversity of the communities we serve, and we encourage people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals with disabilities, and veterans to apply.
What does the Board of Directors do?
As a SheJumps Board Member, you volunteer to steward the future of our organization. You'll join 12 current Board Members as part of a new Board cohort. You commit to attend bi-monthly meetings and our annual summit, and to actively participate in working to further our mission. You will have the opportunity to seek an officer position and are required to join one or more committees. We also ask that you provide virtual support and attend events if available in your areas. You’d serve a 3-year term, with the opportunity to seek an additional term.
What do committees do?
Committees are created to provide counseling and advice for the board or to handle a task on the board's behalf. Or, put more plainly, committees are the backbone of the board of directors, and they’re ultimately responsible for digging into specific areas and making recommendations on actions to the board for adoption. Some committees require committee members to be elected board members, like the Executive Committee and Governance Committee. However many committees offer opportunities for non-board members to participate and provide leadership and feedback.
Joining a committee is one of the best ways to get experience working as part of a nonprofit board, and has proven to be an effective path forward to joining the SheJumps board. Whether or not you have board experience already, a committee position is the perfect way to work toward building the future of SheJumps. You do not need to be selected on the board to serve on a committee.
When you fill out the nomination form, you’ll be asked to share if you’d like to join a committee even if you aren’t chosen for the board. We encourage you to say yes!
We are seeking additional members to join these committees:
DEI (Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion): The SheJumps DEI Committee builds organizational capacity for addressing inequity and systems of exclusion in outdoor recreation, and supports the SJ team in building a community of belonging. Our efforts vary but include supporting/ facilitating learning spaces, analyzing SJ data for DEI related recommendations, and building tools for communications, leadership, etc. We are looking for 2-3 new members, time commitment is 1-2 hours per month.
Finance: The Finance Committee is responsible for review and recommendations on the budget and financial reports, including assessing trends, risks, and opportunities, as well as ensuring financial compliance and controls are in place. If you like details and also want to learn more about nonprofit finance, you can make a meaningful difference on this committee. We are looking for 2-3 new members. The time commitment averages 2-4 hours per month.
Resource Development: The Resource Development Committee supports SheJumps by expanding our funding pool. This committee is perfect for folks who are most passionate about our mission and expanding our reach. We are looking for 2-3 new members who can help us tell our story to potential funders. The time commitment is 2-3 hours per month.
