Meet SheJumps Board Member: Jordan Fisher

Updated: Oct 31

We are thrilled to welcome Jordan Fisher to the SheJumps Board of Directors!

Jordan Fisher is a digital strategy leader with over 10 years of experience driving rapid, sustained growth for non-profits, advocacy organizations, and e-commerce brands, particularly in the areas of conservation, wildlife, and public lands. She has led and supported marketing and fundraising initiatives for prominent organizations such as the National Park Foundation, National Wildlife Federation, Greenpeace USA, and Access Fund. Currently, Jordan leads The Nature Conservancy's (TNC’s) global digital marketing strategy across TNC’s flagship channels—including web, organic social, paid media, and email—along with marketing technology. Since 2017, her work has contributed to the protection of 1.7 million acres of culturally significant Indigenous and public lands through digital advocacy and campaigns.

In the spring of 2023, Jordan moved to Teton Valley, Idaho, to be closer to nature. When she isn’t at her desk, she enjoys fishing, biking, skiing, and climbing, or relaxing on the couch with a good book or her latest knitting project. She is also often found in a classroom learning more about the local Teton Valley ecosystem or volunteering in the community to earn her Idaho Master Naturalist certification.

Q: Place of work, title, location.

A:  The Nature Conservancy, Digital Director, Driggs, ID

Q: Why did you join SheJumps as a board member?

A:  Growing up, I spent a lot of time in nature but I wouldn’t have considered myself outdoorsy. It wasn’t until my late 20s that I discovered climbing, skiing, biking and fishing – now some of my favorite things! When I was new and learning a lot of these sports, SheJumps events were a welcoming place where I could meet partners and mentors and dial in my skills. I’m a big believer in “if you can’t see it, you can’t be it.” SheJumps programming is critical to helping women and girls see what’s possible for them in the outdoors, and helping them choose their own adventure. I’ve been lucky enough to benefit from SheJumps programming for years and wanted to give back to the SJ community.

Q: What goal of the SheJumps Strategic Plan is the most important to you?

A: It’s a close race between “Strengthen our commitment to environmental stewardship” and “establishing a sustainable business model.” It’s probably not surprising that environmental stewardship wins out with my background. The reason is simple – there is no business model if the outdoor spaces we love are at risk. I believe deeply in the power of outdoor recreation to mobilize environmental stewards. There’s a deep, raw sense of place that you get by pushing your limits in the outdoors. I’ve never felt awe like I have in nature, and that deep seeded feeling of awe is what makes me feel environmental threats so acutely. I could tell you the scent of Bears Ears National Monument and the eerie stillness that settles in for just a moment or two at twilight each night. I can describe what the breeze feels like as it whispers through the trees at a local parcel that just fended off massive development in the last decade. I can tell you about the wildlife I’ve seen roaming the Teton River and how grazing is impacting stream quality and the riparian ecosystem. I’ve laughed, cried, drawn blood, and dreamed in a lot of the places I’ve fought to protect. There’s a visceral connection that comes from knowing a place through recreation, and that lends itself to passionate advocacy.

To me, this is unique to the outdoor industry, and I think it’s one of our greatest assets in fighting to protect and conserve the lands and waters that we love so dearly.

Q: What do you hope to contribute to the SheJumps Board of Directors?

A:   I’m excited to bring my background in conservation and growth marketing to the SheJumps Board of Directors. Building on the last question – environmental stewardship and sustainable business models are important to me. I’d be thrilled to lend my skills to helping ensure SheJumps continues to grow and is still delivering thoughtful, accessible programming to women and girls around the country in 20 years.

Q: What is your vision for SheJumps?

A:  I’d love to see SheJumps continue to expand across the country, ensuring equitable program access for all. As a former East Coaster, I always wonder what it would have been like to find SheJumps earlier in my life. I’d also really like to see if there’s an opportunity for SheJumps to show up and become a leader in the mentorship space. Mentorship is one of the fabled cultural aspects of the outdoors, but it’s changed and morphed in recent years due to a variety of factors. It’s especially tricky as a woman in sport to find like-minded teachers and coaches to help you feel comfortable in these new or challenging spaces. There’s a big opportunity for SheJumps to help women become mentors – by continuing to level up critical technical skills in their sports – and to help break down barriers for women who are new to these spaces by giving them access to mentors.

Now, it’s time for the lightning round:

Q: Outdoor activity of choice (pick one, two if you must)?

A: Lazy river kayaking. Give me some sun, a big hat, a snack, and hours to watch wildlife and I’m happy as can be.

Q: Who inspires you to go outside and why?

A: My dog! This may seem silly but she’s a great reminder to get outside each day. Plus, zoomies! I love watching her pure joy when she hits the trail. It’s a good reminder to enjoy the moment and let nature make you feel like a curious kid again.

Q: Where is your favorite place to go outside or on an adventure?

A:  The desert. I try to make a trip at least once a year. I’m not sure what it is about red rock and juniper but they always bring me back to my values and make me feel more connected to myself and the people around me.

Q: How has the outdoors benefited your health and overall physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing?

A: No fair asking this one in the lighting round! I could wax poetic about this but I’ll keep it short. The outdoors has challenged me in ways I never thought possible before getting into outdoor recreation, conservation, and nature education. Being in nature has taught me a lot about my own power. Sometimes it pushes me to my limits. Sometimes it gives me quiet peace. But it always, always keeps me curious and keeps that fire lit within me.

Thanks, Jordan!
