October 14 and 15th brought some of the best fall riding weather of the year to the Carrabassett Valley. Sunny skies and mild temps were in store for the 15 women who attended the overnight mountain bike trip to Maine Huts and Trails Poplar Stream Hut.
The trails system offer a variety of challenges for all, including one untimely river swim facilitated by a low hanging branch. Another rider had derailleur issues that necessitated a quick visit to the Carrabassett Valley bike shop for repair and a bike rental to carry on. Big shout out to Bob Ash for his expertise in getting our rider back on the saddle.
A long day of riding on Saturday was rewarded by a gourmet family style dinner provided by our hosts at Poplar Stream Hut, Adam and Alec, followed by a energy tour of the facility and its self sustaining operations. A warm fire capped the evening before a restful nights sleep. Sunday arrived with the threat of rain that luckily held off and broke to a gorgeous sunny afternoon. Many smiles were seen when riders finished two challenging days of trail riding and personal achievements.
Many thanks to Sue Clifford and Meridith McFarland for their assistance in this event! Also thanks to Ecolips and Treeline Coffee for providing goodies for our attendees. A huge thank you to Maine Huts and Trails for providing a spectacular venue for this event!
