Here at SheJumps we are huge supporters of all things outdoor education and safety related. One of the most important ways you can protect yourself in outdoor sports such as skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering, biking, and rock climbing is through wearing a helmet. It’s such an easy way to help prevent catastrophic injury.
Helmets should be worn in any activity where a fall or head injury is a real risk. This applies to everyone from the most experienced expert, to those who are just stepping on the mountain or other outdoor arena for the first time. And by sporting a helmet, not only will we all be protecting our own best assets, we will be helping to promote the attitude that #HelmetsAreCool. What could be better than serving as a positive role model for the next generation of outdoor athletes?
Many of you know the Sally Francklyn story, so it should be no surprise that she’s a huge proponent of helmets. She sustained devastating injuries in a backcountry ski accident on March 24, 2012. But had she not been wearing a helmet, she wouldn’t have survived the ordeal. Sally’s determination to embrace her recovery with the same passion she has for skiing has earned her the nickname of “Superwoman.” She is an athlete through and through. And more importantly, she is an amazing role model and beacon of inspiration for all of us young & old!
Take Sally’s advice and strap your helmets on before heading out on your next adventure! We encourage you all to become a part of the movement. We all have the power to make helmets be the cool new standard. And with so much on the line, why not take this simple step to protect your noggin?
