The 3rd annual Get the Girls Out at The Nut was a great success with over 25 women and young ladies gathering to support SheJumps, while enjoying a fun day of skiing and riding at Virginia’s Massanutten Resort. Ladies from all over the Commonwealth came together to meet fellow Southeast jumpers for an awesome bluebird day on the mountain. It was another perfect opportunity to get women and girls outside and on the mountain to share smiles and laughter!

There were plenty of Girafficorn shirts, hats and stickers available to further spread the SheJumps love! Everyone that registered was also able to grab a delicious Kate’s Real Food bar and the first 10 ladies received scrumptious coffee from our partners at Little Red Wagon Coffee Roasters.

After checking-in the jumpers couldn’t contain their enthusiasm any longer and were ready to hit the slopes! Many ladies were stoked to see each other again after attending last year’s event, or one of our other recent regional events. It was great to see many familiar faces as well as several new ones!

Following the photo ops a few ladies stayed down low to take lessons and improve their techniques, while the rest headed to the intermediate area to start the day with a couple of runs together. It’s great to see how much one participant who took a lesson got out of the event. She later commented:
“Thank you for organizing such an amazing event. I feel as if I got so much satisfaction out of today. For many years; skiing has just torn the confidence out of me but I have been quite determined to learn and after a few spins; it’s almost exhilarating to think about how fun the bunny slopes were today!!…after all these years finally learning how to ski is just AWESOME! So Kelly, thanks for today, I finally understand the magnitude of “SheJumps”
Thanks for taking a jump with us as this is what SheJumps all about!

After the rest warmed up their legs, the ladies split into smaller groups for a few more hours of skiing and snowboarding. Everyone had a great time catching up with friends old and new as they enjoyed the fresh air and the camaraderie of another all female event.

Gathering for lunch at the Mid-Mountain Grill was the perfect time to rejuvenate our legs and reconnect as a group while catching up and furthering friendships.

Once everyone refueled it was back to the slopes for a few more turns, laughs and encouragement as we made several more runs before calling it a day.

The Southeast ladies even picked up a new jumper by spotting a Girafficorn on a helmet near by. Turns out she just moved to the area from Utah and thanks to her magical friend, she has now reconnected with SheJumps via the Southeast Region!

As the day wrapped up we made our way to the newly opened Base Camp umbrella bar on the ski lodge deck for an après ski party and raffle. Everyone had a fun time relaxing, chatting about the day, swapping info and promising to meet again!

Several local business partners donated over $500 worth of awesome items to the raffle, while the staff of Base Camp generously provided delicious appetizers to accompany our cold beverages. Everyone went home with a smile, several with new Girafficorn gear and some with great raffle prizes!

The SheJumps Get the Girls Out at the Nut event was a fantastic day with awesome women and young girls that enabled us to keep spreading the word about SheJumps in the Southeast Region. We also helped raise almost a thousand dollars to support the organization, which is beyond amazing! More importantly everyone had a blast!
The ladies even convinced a guy to support SheJumps by purchasing a Girafficorn hat!

A huge thanks to all of our local business partners. We couldn’t have put this incredible event together with out them: Massanutten Resort, Base Camp, The Sole Source, Peter Glenn Ski and Sports, Powder Shack, Jack Brown’s and Midatlantic Motorwerkes, Backcountry, Little Red Wagon Coffee Roasters, Kate’s Real Foods and Big Agnes.

Also thank you to Kris Hensley for helping with registration check-in for taking photos on the slopes!

Without the generous support of partners and volunteers, events like this wouldn’t be possible. Seeing everyone have a great time and smiling is totally awesome and worth it!
