On Saturday, January 13th, SheJumps hosted its first (now to be annual) Avalanche Safety and Awareness event in the chapel at Crystal Mountain Ski Resort apre’ ski. With 109 attendees, this co-ed, all ages event was a great success. A presentation by Crystal Mountain Ski Patrol Director Kim Kircher started things off. Basics such as slope, conditions, temperatures, personal safety, and alerts were covered, as well as avalanche triggers, control, and Crystal Mountain hazard areas. Footage shot at CM was shared and appreciated by all. This was followed up by a question and answer session.
We took a brief intermission where pizza and beverages were enjoyed by all while having another chance to interact with our patrollers and purchase raffle tickets.
After intermission, a safety and experiences film provided by High Fives Foundation, demonstrated that all big mountain and pro skiing isn’t glamorous with perfect landings, and drove home the reality of less than ideal events and their consequences.
We followed up with a raffle drawing of great swag and smiles all around.
