SheJumps DownHill Mountain Bike Day Recap

This past Sunday was SheJumps NorthEast third Downhill Mountain Biking Day at Thunder Mountain Bike Park in Charlemont MA. It was dusty and 90 degrees but that didn’t slow down anyone! One of the things I love most about SheJumps is the community that has continued to grow. This time around we had women from every single state in New England! It is amazing to see how this program has reached out to all locations! Now this awesome group of women could go to any state in New England and have someone to ride with!

When this event first happened last September it was mostly women who had never mountain biked or have never downhill mountain biked. This time around it was almost all women who had been before. It was awesome to see that many of these women had come last fall and started off as beginners where now in the intermediate group! For the beginner group seeing their faces as they first came down was amazing. It was the happiest group with the biggest smiles. Their coach asked if they could keep going for more laps even though we were done for the day! That is what I love to see, confident women who are just loving every second of what they are doing.

We have been so lucky to have the most amazing coaches to volunteer for this event. At this event we had three time coach Paula Barton, two time coach Harold Green, Kelly Dolan who I met at an enduro race earlier this year and Meridith McFarland our new Ambassador in Vermont. They are the key to making this event the great success is has been! I can’t thank them enough! Each of them had a group of five women that all were looking for various things from learning just the basics to learning to jump. Thunder Mountain Bike Park has been the best park for having terrain for all groups and for progression. Every single women I talked to at the end of the day had the best time. Many of the women who were in the beginner group said they were now hooked and coming back. In the intermediate groups we had women jumping bigger than ever before, going for laps on black diamond trails and feeling more confident. At the end of the event I looked around, I saw new friendships were made, phone numbers being exchanged, stories were being told, women were heading off for more laps in new groups and smiles all around. This is what SheJumps is all about.
