What a great time to be a Girafficorn! 2017 marks the third year we’ve hosted our Get the Girls Out event at Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpoint, Idaho and every year the event has gotten better and better. This year is no exception. With nearly 100 people registered to have a great day on the mountain and 7” of blower pow overnight from Ullr, good vibes were at an all-time high!
We started out our day with a little warm-up barre/yoga infusion class, taught by one of our SheJumper volunteers, certified barre instructor, and all-around amazing woman and mother, Lori!
Before skiing commenced, we also took time out to craft our own custom tutus to wear for the day!
After our tutus were ready and our group picture was taken, it was time to hit the slopes! This magical unicorn was one of the winners of the best-dressed competition:
This year, people really brought their A-Game with costumes, retro onesies, tutus, and just pure swagger. the Schweitzer locals sure didn’t know what they were in for on this particular powder day: I saw a T-Rex, a bunny, a baby costume, a clown, 5 unicorns, and a lot of other amazing outfits in the village and in the lift lines!
Besides winning the spirit award, these ladies also took first in our Girafficorn photo scavenger hunt:
With 7” of fresh snow overnight and discounted lift tickets for our event from Schweitzer mountain, people didn’t have much time for anything other than enjoying the amazing skiing conditions.
Most people did not have any problem staying out all day to enjoy the nice snow…
But all good things must come to an end and when they called for last chair, we made our way into the lodge to get ready for our big raffle!
We had so many generous local sponsors and national sponsors donate a variety of items for our fundraising raffle. There were goggles, helmets, jackets, gloves, gift certificates, and so much more! Our grand prizes were a GNU splitboard donated by Mervin Manufacturing and a pair of custom skis donated by local ski maker, Sneva MFG. The winner of the skis gets to help design her new pair of skis, from the core, to the dimensions, to the graphic!
It was a great day of community and fun and I think it’s safe to say that we accomplished our mission of getting the girls out on the mountain! All of this wouldn’t have been possible without our wonderful host mountain, Schweitzer, all of our extremely generous sponsors, and last but never least, our AMAZING volunteers who helped pull this all together. Thank you for supporting SheJumps and our mission to engage more girls and women in the outdoors! Mission accomplished (for today anyways).
