On Tuesday night, we had over 40 women gathered together for our first Into to Trail Running event in Seattle at Seven Hills Running Shop. Women of all different experience levels packed in to listen to Kaytyln Gerbin, a local ultrarunning superstar, share tips and tricks on how to transition from running on roads to running trails and longer distances. It was inspiring to hear how Kaytlyn used to perceive running as a punishment. In spite of that, she has worked hard to become a successful ultrarunner who has found time to train for ultra races, obtain her PhD, and volunteer with the Mountaineers. A nice reminder that anything is possible if you’re willing to work hard (and have fun doing it!).
Throughout the night, the ladies sipped beer and cider donated by Two Beers Brewing and Seattle Cider Co. as Kaytlyn offered great advice for trail running beginners, including local places to start training (Discovery, Carkeek, and Ravenna Parks) and gear recommendations. She also discussed helpful fueling tips and the importance of carrying the ten essentials when venturing into the mountains. Her presentation included beautiful pictures from her trail runs all over Washington. Many of us left the night excited to explore places like the North Cascades and the Olympics once the snow melts out.
The women who attended asked many great questions throughout the presentation. A large group of ladies stayed afterwards to chat with one another and make new trail running buddies. It was empowering to be in a room with so many awesome women. We were excited to learn many women were at their first SheJumps event. We hope to see you all again in the future!
We want to extend a warm thank you to Seven Hills Running Shop for hosting our event and donating the gift certificates and running vest to our raffle. We also want to thank the folks at Two Beers Brewing Co and Seattle Cider Co. for donating their delicious beer and cider. The night was a success thanks to both of your contributions. Please support these awesome local companies!
