Back by popular demand is the Utah Avalanche Center and SheJumps women’s only snow safety series! From the classroom to in the field, there is something for every lady, no matter the ability level, who is interested in learning about being smart in the backcountry. Start out by listening to Utah Avalanche Center’s Evelyn Lees give a presentation on awareness and staying alive in avalanche terrain at REI. Next up, get out on the snow and practice using your beacon. Even if you spend every day in the backcountry or are just discovering how to use your beacon, it is the most important skill to have when it comes to avalanche rescue! Finally, learn about avalanche characteristics, snowpack fundamentals, terrain assessment, safe travel techniques and decision-making in the Women’s Backcountry 101 class. There truly is something for everyone, so come on out, meet some active ladies, and become snow smart!
