A reflection from SheJumps' National Program Manager, Heidi:

Some experiences stay with you long after they’re over, and Get the Girls Out! 2025 is one of them. Every Monday morning this past month, I’ve opened my inbox to heartfelt stories from women and girls whose lives were touched by these events. Their words are a powerful reminder of why SheJumps exists, and why we continue to show up, year after year.

At Crystal Mountain, a nine-year-old girl spent the day skiing alongside a female ski patroller. At the end of the day, she turned to her mom and said, “I want to work in Search and Rescue!”

In Alaska, a new mom took her first steps into outdoor adventure with her little one on Nordic skis, proving that motherhood isn’t the end of adventure; it’s the start of a new kind.

In California, a woman joined a hiking group and found a community of new friends who share her home language and background, turning a simple walk into something much bigger.

In Portland, an audience gathered to watch female-centered films, inspiring the next generation of rippers, filmmakers, and adventurers.

At Steamboat Resort, a sunset skin became even more magical with tutus, glowsticks, neon onesies, and the kind of camaraderie that keeps us all coming back for more.

And at Summit at Snoqualmie, a father donated to SheJumps because he wants his daughters to feel safe, welcomed, and confident in the outdoors.

These moments, both big and small, are why Get the Girls Out! matters.

Did We Make a Difference?

Absolutely.

Over the past month, more than 100 volunteers poured their energy into organizing 17 Get the Girls Out! events across the United States. Because of their dedication, more than 700 women and girls registered to get outside, build community, and create lifelong memories.

These gatherings ranged from large, resort-based events to small, intimate meetups, each one a reminder that women and girls not only belong in the outdoors, but that we make it better, safer, and more inclusive.

And if there was any doubt that the SheJumps community is committed to making outdoor recreation more accessible, the numbers speak for themselves:

💙Over $12,000 raised through donations and raffles.💙 Funds raised will go directly to creating more low-cost and free events, scholarships, and youth programming to get more women and girls outside.

To everyone who showed up, donated, or helped spread the word, thank you. Your support is making a real impact.

Women Are Showing Up in the Outdoors, But There’s More Work to Do

SheJumps is part of a nationwide shift in outdoor recreation.

According to the 2024 Outdoor Participation Trends Report from the Outdoor Industry Association, more than half of American women are now participating in outdoor recreation for the first time ever, 51.9% in 2023, up from 50% in 2022. That’s huge.

But we still have a long way to go.

The same report found that while outdoor spaces are becoming more diverse, progress is slow. Snowsports remain overwhelmingly white, female guides are still underrepresented in the outdoor industry, and conversations about gender disparity in the outdoors are often met with resistance and hesitation.

But like a true Girafficorn, I have hope.

I believe in a future where the gender gap in outdoor spaces disappears. Where all women feel safe, strong, and free to be themselves outside. Where adventure belongs to everyone.

And thanks to Get the Girls Out!, we’re taking one step closer to that future, together!

Allyship MATTERS.

Get the Girls Out! is not a moment- it’s a movement. And movements do not happen in silos. SheJumps’ Corporate Partners have stood behind us, and catalyzed each magical moment that came out of this past month’s celebrations of women and community in the outdoors. A special thank you to:

Alltrails for showing up for SheJumps this month in every way possible. They hosted SheJumps’ staff on a panel about women’s leadership in the outdoors, highlighted our work and events to their community, provided all Get the Girls Out! hikers with Alltrails goodies, and renewed their financial support of SheJumps for an additional year.

Subaru WinterFest for partnering with SheJumps to break down barriers to mountain access in Colorado but providing lift tickets, lessons, and rental packages to women who would otherwise have been unable to come out and join us for Get the Girls Out! And Nordica for providing two full ski setups to enable these women to come back and join us next year!

MadHippie hand assembled 1,000 cosmetics bags to surprise and delight each Get the Girls Out! participant.

Every single one of our inkind supporters. Without each of them, SheJumps would not have been able to raise over $12,000 through raffles to support our work. Thank you to Stio, Kari Traa, Gritty Habits, Flylow, Branwyn, and Shredly for the gear, apparel, and gift cards, so that we can continue the critical work of increasing the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities so they can thrive.

What’s Next?

With my heart full and a deep breath of gratitude after a month of celebration, I find myself asking: Is it really over?

The answer? Not even close.

The magic of Get the Girls Out! doesn’t end when the events do, it fuels what comes next. Personally, I can’t wait to check out a SheJumps Fundraising Climb and sharpen my mountain biking skills with some fellow Girafficorns this summer.

What are you hoping to do?

This season was a powerful reminder that when women and girls come together in the outdoors, we build confidence, community, and a future where everyone belongs.

To every volunteer, participant, donor, and supporter, thank you. We didn’t just make a difference; we’re part of a movement.

Heidi S., SheJumps' National Program Manager
