Get the Girls Out at Magic Mountain, VT
Last July, I had a phone call with Jim Sullivan and Geoff Hatheway, our partners at Magic Mountain in Vermont. They were in full support of having our very first Get the Girls Out at Magic Mountain and had given me the green light to put it on our calendar. Earlier in the year I had put a girrafficorn sticker and a magic sticker on the cover of my date book, and that day in July, my vision was coming to fruition. In my mind, the perfect day at for our event would be a sunny spring day that would show off the fun community vibe at Magic, and we’d have access to a mountain full of soft snow and steep terrain. So we picked a random day in March when the calendar was open.
Fast forward to late February, when during a newspaper interview, I was asked what it meant to me to have an event like this on International Women’s Day. “What?! Really!” I asked. You would think as regional coordinator of a women’s empowerment organization I would have known this, but it was a serendipitous coincidence that indicated this day would be special.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, during this winter when New England weather was ALL over the map…we had a warm sunny day and ate lunch on the deck! Who could ask for a better day!

I think when magical beasts like girrafficorns and a magical mountain like Magic, come together the planets align for a perfect day!
Over twenty women from Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut attended. A real northeast showing.
Just missing Maine and Rhode Island-we’ll work on that for next year!
And since we also missed out on having any Canadians, we’re excited to host at Mt. Tremblant on the 23rd.
Personally, it was inspiring for me to be taking runs with 10 plus women ages 25-61 on some of the steepest runs on Magic. Everywhere I looked were beautifully confident women around me.
RAMP sports also joined in on the fun and brought their full fleet of ski’s and snowboards for demo-ing. The Chickadee’s and the Frenzy’s were a popular favorite on the groomers. Those Frenzy’s like to go fast!!
Thanks to our local and national partners, Magic Mountain and all the women who attended, we raised over $700 for She Jumps.
